Private insurance plans are sometimes necessary as a bridge between jobs or prior to getting onto Medicare. They are generally short in term and require the application to be underwritten. It must also be noted that these plans are not ACA compliant, however they offer reasonable coverage for a reasonable price. Lastly, these plans do not cover preexisting conditions for the first 12 months.
